Frequently Asked Questions (BC)| FAQ
Q: Is Helicopter Retrieval of the unit covered under an Off-Road Policy?
A: We will pay the cost of retrieving and repairing the unit, if it’s involved in a covered loss, up to the limit. So, the limit of coverage for retrieval (in the event of a covered loss) is the limit shown on the dec. page. It’s important to note that retrieval expenses are inclusive of (not in addition to) the limit of insurance shown on the dec. page. Whatever is paid for retrieval reduces the amount available to pay for repairs.
Q: Does the Search and Rescue/ Accident Benefits Endorsement cover unit retrieval?
A: No. Search and Rescues mission is to find people – not things.
Q: Search and Rescue is free in most Provinces – why would I require this coverage?
A: Search and Rescue isn’t always free depending on where you are using your unit. It’s also important to remember this coverage only kicks in if you are obligated to pay by reason of liability imposed upon you by law or statute.
Q: Can an Enduro bike be insured under an Off-Road policy?
A: Yes. Depending on the coverage required, it may be best to place all risk coverage and off-road liability on the same policy. This would provide coverage on and off road for physical damage and off-road liability. If you do not use the Enduro bike off road, and do not require off road liability – the bike can be placed on the Beacon RideSmart Motorcycle Program.
Q: Can an Insured use the ORV for Business Purposes?
A: These are private pleasure use only policies. Consideration can be given to add Incidental Business Use to the policy but must fit within underwriter guidelines and must be approved by the Practice Leader. Please talk to your insurance broker for more information on this option.
Q: Are minors covered under the BC Off-Road Program?
A: All applicants must be of legal age to enter a contact (18 years of age). A minor can be listed as a primary operator, but the policy will need to be in the name of the guardian/parent. It’s important to remember this is third party liability and is not covering the minor. It’s also important to remember that all operators must be abiding by the law, and all manufacturer safety operating guidelines.
Q: Can the unit be used on a hobby farm?
A: Yes.
Q: Will an amphibious vehicle be covered under the BC Off-Road Program (Argo ATVs) ?
A: Yes, but exclusions apply regarding property that is waterborne.
Q: What is the difference between All Risk and Specified Perils?
A: The difference is collision coverage.
Q: Will my unit be covered when crossing a main roadway/highway on the BC Off-Road program?
A: As long as the operator is abiding by the law, and has all risk coverage, the policy would respond to a covered collision claim in this situation.
Q: What is considered an “Off-Road Club Membership” and how do I get the discount?
A: Any Off-Road Club that requires a paid membership will go toward obtaining a Club Membership Discount on your policy. Let your broker know if you don’t see this discount on your policy declaration page.
